It was way back in 2003 that Madhur Bhandarkar's CHANDNI BAR had travelled to Moscow for 'Moscow International Film Festival'. Over last six years, Bhandarkar has made quite a few other award winning and commercially successful films. However, none of his movies could make it to this festival again. Now, history is repeating itself as Madhur's last release (and the biggest grosser of his career) FASHION would be screening in this year's '31st Moscow International Film Festival 2009'.
Madhur is of course elated at the announcement and is gearing up to take his film to an international platform. ''It's a matter of pride that FASHION has been the chosen one for the Film Festival. I am honoured with the recognition and such support coming my way. Six years is a long wait and though my films were winning National Awards here in India, I have continued looking forward to how my movies strike a chord internationally as well. Moscow holds a special place in my heart as for decades, this part of the world has appreciated Bollywood cinema. I hope they also like what they see in FASHION.''
A good box office success when released last Diwali, FASHION is an all-woman (Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mugdha Godse) affair that defined a new dimension for the career of each of the three ladies. Moreover, the film also brought Madhur in a new light altogether as for the first time in his career, he moved out of the grim and gritty backgrounds of his films and presented something which was as glossy (while maintaining a realistic touch) and striking as FASHION.
